Sleep - Poets of the Fall
whoa iconceptionNightmares had been a part of April's life for years. Every other night she would dream of blood and screaming and wouldn't be able to fall back asleep again after that. That had been her for countless nights for many years.
That changed when she met and moved in with Ledah, though. At first, the nightmares still happened, not as bad and often as before, but they still occurred and kept her awake. But when she finally told him about them, and when he helped her when the dreams shook her so much that she couldn't sleep, it started to get better. They were less frequent, less horrific, and she would wake up in the morning, cuddled up to him, feeling warm and safe.
There are many things she's grateful to him for, and one of them is giving her the chance to sleep peacefully again. And so, whenever Ledah's own dreams would become too dark, she would be right there next to him, holding him close and doing her best comfort him.

Angel-Aerosmith
Rag Doll-Aerosmith (Some sexual implications toward the end.)
Now was one of those times, as he held her pressed to the wall with one hand pushing against her shoulder while the other held her chin almost delicately. "Afraid of me now, Monstre Ange? You're only a whim away from being torn to bits like the pathetic doll that you are, you know."
V/V, for her part, seemed almost relaxed. She knew it was well within his power to kill her, but he hadn't yet, and she doubted he would. "No, I'm not."
"Then perhaps I'll have to do worse," his reply came with a smirk and he lunged forward, but not to attack. His lips pressed against hers, forcing her mouth open just enough for him to bite down on her lower lip. She flinched a little when he drew blood, but he didn't even seem to notice.
Burning For You-Blue Oyster Cult
The question made Albedo laugh. Why? He'd never cared to try to change human nature. And why should he? It was that evil that had given him life, that darkness where he'd made his home. He was a killer by nature and desire, and he'd seen men commit atrocities that there was no washing your hands from.
And besides, it had never really mattered to him either way. Either his plan would have succeeded and he wouldn't have long to put up with this world, or it would have failed and the universe would have become his personal Hell regardless of anything else.
Veteran of a Thousand Psychic Wars-Blue Oyster Cult
He'd called her naive when she brought that up. No, it wasn't over, despite the fact that he was no longer among men who would use him as a weapon or carrying the lonely burden of immortality. It would never be over, really. In a way, he was at war with fate, and with himself as well. There were no battlefields, no obvious wounds, but there were scars. The biggest was the gaping hole that had been carved out of him when Rubedo had vanished. That one had nearly broken him. It would have entirely destroyed him as he was now, if he hadn't gotten his short rest to pull himself back together. But it had been too late to really recover even before that had happened. His psyche was covered with so many scars, it was essentially impossible to see through to who he was by nature.

1. A part of his own joke that Albedo never got
Gaignun was sitting in the coffee shop one day when that blasted song came on, making him frown. Sure, he liked the Beatles, but Albedo's stupid joke in that situation had just added so many connotations to it. A denial, playing on the colours of their hair. But the more he thought about it, the more he realized that there had been more to that offhanded comment then he suspected Albedo had realized when he made it.
In the song, ebony and ivory represent opposites. Opposite colours, opposite keys on a piano, opposite sides of an argument. But ebony and ivory are also physical materials, one coming from the death of trees, and the other from the death of animals. The one thing they have in common.
And death was one of the few things the brothers had in common too.
2. Bloody. Well...Riiiiiight.
Often they would end up talking, somewhere around the vicinity of 3 in the morning. Usually the topics would range from good to bad, hilarious to depressing, all contained within the same sentence. One of their most common topics oddly enough, was about their childhoods at the Yuriev institute. To be more specific, spectacular mission fuck ups.
These stories always were gory and horrific, but it often had one or the other of them laughing because that was all that they had known at the time. Of course they knew no one else would find them funny, like it was a more extreme version of 'you had to be there'.
3. Big cat, little cat.
"We still have to name her."
Albedo couldn't help but roll his eyes. Ever since Nigredo had brought home that stupid cat, that had been a phrase he heard every hour or so. Eventually they settled on Roland even though it was a female kitten, mainly because she enjoyed riding on their shoulders.
"Would you get her OFF my cape?"
Nigredo couldn't help but roll his eyes. Roland had decided that her favorite place to sleep was the weird pool of cloth that Albedo's cape made when he was sitting down. This of course, made the largest cat in the house her favorite toy.
4. Let your heartbeat pound the drums of war
He dreams of them marching sometimes, the drums of war personified by the unified stomp of feet, the pounding of a heart. He dreams of them all, even the dead ones marching along and they can not stop, even though some have missing limbs or gaping holes.
He dreams of his brothers, the one stained red as blood obscured by the one who pretends to be as white as fresh snow, a head of them he sees the ones that are shining and tarnished bronze. He dreams of his sister, orange as the setting sun.
Black as the night they're trapped in he dreams, he is cold. Shouldn't black be warm and white be cold but everything about them is as mixed up as anything can be.
He wakes, and pretends not to burrow beneath the covers and sleeping white, there would only be laughter if that one wakes.
5. I'm not Euridyce, and heaven knows you're no Orpheus
They had done it, leaving Prospero for their own worlds was now possible and things were shutting down in the town to make them go. There was much excitement and everyone was crowding around to say their goodbyes. Eventually, after most people (including Ryu) had left, the brothers were left standing by themselves in front of the portal back to their home universe.
Hesitating.
Albedo, in a now rare display of uncertainty, grabbed Nigredo's hand, to reassure himself that his little brother was still there and not dead again. Yet.
"Albedo, we have to go. We can't pause here for too much longer. Besides, Rubedo is waiting for you, and you know how he gets fidgety if he's waiting too long. Who knows what he'd break." This was an old carrot that he'd used since they were children, dangling Rubedo in front of Albedo could usually make him do almost anything. Not that he didn't like the hand around his wrist, but he knew that as they passed through the portal that he would disappear once more and he didn't want Albedo feel it when it happened.
"I know that Nigredo," Albedo said, looking away but his claws begain to dig into the delicate wrist they were wrapped around, "but you..."
Nigredo shook his head and lifting his hands (clinging hand and all) and turned Albedo to face the portal gently by the shoulders. Taking advantage of Albedo's upset feelings, began to guide him towards it. Thankfully they were close enough that by the time Albedo thought to resist they were already stepping inside.
As he felt himself starting to dissolve into the ether once more he spoke softly to his brother. "Don't worry Albedo, I'm right here. Even if you can't see me anymore I'm always going to be right here, behind you two, where I've always been. Always."

1. When Sci-Fi meets Fantasy
"Gaignun, is that really true?" Ryu asked, after hearing yet another explanation about something in this modern world that confused the former Dragon God. This time it was about the differences between the airplanes he'd seen flying around Prospero, and the space ships that his now father figure kept talking about.
"Of course it is. Unladen swallows are great sources of energy. I'm surprised they haven't thought of it yet."
2. To die is but an end, reached by many means.
Gaignun wasn't sure who had told Ryu about the fact that he was dead in his home universe (though he strongly suspected it had been Albedo who let it slip). He didn't exactly mind, it was common knowledge where he was from, and he had told Devola himself, still it was hard to explain why he was alright with it to the small half dragon, someone who regarded most life as the most precious thing in the world. Someone who Gaignun was rather fond of.
"It was my time." He said, smiling halfheartedly and gently patting the blue hair in front of him. "There was nothing anyone could have done about it, and the fact that it happened meant that someone else who deserved all that he got was punished for his crimes. My death also accomplished in reuniting Albedo and Rubedo in a way I think will eventually benefit both of them." Ryu didn't deserve the necessity speech.
He'd never admit that there was another reason to him going so easily into that dark void.
He had been so very tired...

1. "Destroy Everything You Touch (Hot Chip Remix)" - Ladytron
As he had no real life outside of this, how could he know anything of what he destroyed?
April showed him what he was missing, what it meant to truly live in this or any world. What he had with her was something that he would not give up for the world.
...He could not truly go back to what he was before.

1. "With A Little Help From My Friends" - Across The Universe
The worried tone of Issei's voice was clear even through the phone. Diarmuid sighed. "I don't want to bother you too much..."
"What else are younger brothers for? Unless you don't think much of my help." Now Issei sounded on the verge of a lecture.
Best to stave it off. "I'll come to you more often," he answered.
An audible smile. "Very good. I regret that there isn't more I can do with your current situation, but every ounce of help I have is yours, dear beloved brother of mine."

It was a feeling Naoya knew too well - staying up with a friend until the morning's light brushed pale reds and oranges through the window. He looked down at the sleeping teenager, curled up on the floor of his brother's room in the middle of the day.
There would be a role for him as well - not one as dramatic, but his brother would need help, and someone to decipher clues. This boy, at least, was less of an idiot than most of the teenagers he had encountered. Quietly, he draped a blanket over him, closing the door to let the two teens rest a bit more before he would wake them.
